Hello world.
If you’re not someone who’s ever done any software development, then that phrase “hello world”, doesn’t have the same meaning that it would to a software developer. But that’s a suitable introduction for this article, because coding has continued to be one of the greatest advancements that AI continues to make on a regular basis. And arguably one of the most useful applications for AI.
Full disclosure: I did not write a single line of this with AI, nor did I get any kind of AI to review it…
Let me introduce myself; I’m Jake. I’m a digital nomad who has been both a creative designer & software developer for nearly 20 years. I’ve built online platforms, mobile apps, YouTube channels, and provided a vast range of creative services to a lot of different businesses. I’ve also watched and used AI from the dawn of its creation up until now, and still readily use it on a daily basis for coding, planning, and many other things. I’m passionate about privacy, and I appreciate to grow any kind of platform with a faceless approach is a lot less appealing than showing yourself, however in this day and age with AI I think putting less of yourself online is better.
What’s my intention or goal with By Hoomans? To create a corner of the web that is curated for humans. To shine a spotlight on what we still bring to the table. To help graphic designers, UI designers, mobile app developers, web designers, and every other digital creative in between keep tabs on the AI arms race and see what their future holds. But also to create opportunities for discussion, ideas, and finding new paths that we might not had known about before.
This project sparked as I see headlines surface day by day about job losses to AI. It also came from my own work, rethinking the very clients I try to acquire. I’ve been more and more asking myself “why can’t they just use ai to do this now?” and for a lot of them they can…
AI has made leaps and bounds in ability, for me it almost looks like a parabolic curve—not just a gradual increase in ability but continuously getting better and better at a faster and faster rate—and as a result the output of what can be created with AI tools has changed the game.
I introduced my father who’s near retirement to Codex recently. He’s not a software engineer/developer by any stretch of the imagination, so it took a bit of getting the ropes for him to make some headway compared to how easily I’m used to working with it. However by the time he got the hang of things he was blown away, he recreated his workflow that was heavily spreadsheet driven and created a piece of software for his business to use to streamline order processing. Why hadn’t he got an existing piece of software for this? Because every one he tried was not exactly what he was looking for.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the AI world and its influence on your line of work. Do you think there are emerging opportunities for humans that AI just can’t and potentially won’t ever be able to replace?
Welcome to By Hoomans. Est 12 August in the year 2026.
